  • Ayna? - Arabic Guide : Ayna? (Arabic for Where?) has 14 categories with hyperlinked sub-categories of Arabic and related material. Allows category and site search (Arabic and English) with a button to add your own. Ayna offers a number of encodings including Windows cp-1256, ISO, UTF-8 and GIF. Most text is in Arabic. Ayna now includes web-based Arabic e-mail.
  • Naseej - Arab Information Network : Arabic - in CP-1256 - and English web guide with plenty of resources (news, sports, Islam, jobs and many others) and web-based Arabic e-mail. No search capability
  • Sakhr's Guide : Arabic (CP-1256) and English. Has search capability and offers many resources on Islam, language and literature. The guide is actually at http://www.aldalil.com/.
  • al-Murshid (Arab Web Directory with search in English and Arabic. We could not get the Arabic search to function when we tested)
  • Konouz: Arabic/English guide and search in Arabic and English. Many other resources and services.
  • ArabSeek - Middle East Guide (Category index and search engine in English only)
  • Arabia Online: English and Arabic (cp-1256) interface. Offers directory, news, country info, e-mail and search (English only)
  • Arabview Network [English]: Arab Internet Directory has 15 categories of Arabic and related subjects. Has a search facility but everything is in English.
  • ArabNet Country data and A-Z directory. Search in English.

• Arabic Search Engines (These are sites which accept queries in Arabic. See above for sites with Arabic related material and English search)
  • Ayna? search site: you can search in either ISO or CP-1256, either site-wide or by category with some search and display options. Searches only Ayna?'s site.
  • ArabVista: AltaVista in Arabic (or an attempt to be like that).
  • Sakhr's Al-Idriisi search site: includes simple and advanced searches (Arabic cp-1256 and English), allows search and display options. Searches only Sakhr's site (including items in the their Internet guide). Try their advanced search as well.
  • al-Murshid Arab Web Directory with search option in English. We could not access the site to update this info on February 22, 1999.
  • Konouz: Search in Arabic (cp-1256) or English.
  • Global search sites that accept Arabic search: A number of major internet search sites accept Arabic input and return results of literal matching. Best among these is Altavista and Infoseek.
    All The Web is also large and fast engine with Arabic support (partial, as of May 2000).
    Most other search engines depend on Altavista and Infoseek when they fail for some reason or another (including inability to handle Arabic strings). A catch-all search engine is The Mother of all Search Engines which queries a number of major search engines with one query. Note that all these engines match the first word (no phrase or boolean search possible) and are sensitive to the word forms (verb, noun, defined with al- etc.)
