Saturday:
Let's learn some animals in Arabic. To start, today's word is
Hayawaan which means animal (sm). You may be surprised to
learn that its plural is regular (sound) feminine plural, but don't worry now,
this is advanced grammar. Your assignment is to translate: "I saw a small animal."

Sunday:
Rabbits are cute! In Arabic, arnab (sm) is the word and
it is easy to make the feminine gender (add the haa' marker - see
the program for details). How do you say: "The rabbit is under the
tree."?(sm)
Monday:
Squirrels! Who desn't like them? in Arabic, sinjaab is
the sm, and sanaajib is the plural (irregular). How do we
say: "I like squirrels."?
Tuesday:
Today's rodent (oops! I am late again) is a mouse or fa'r
as the Arabs call it. The plural is fi'raan (irregular).
Mice are considered very unclean in the Arab (and of course,
Islamic) culture. No one uses them as pets! How do you say: "The
mouse is a small animal."?
Wednesday:
For today, we have the word kalb for dog (sm). The
plural is kilaab. Dogs are used as guards or for hunting
but not as pets. How do you say: "Our dog is gray."?
Thursday:
Today's word is baQarah which is Arabic for cow. You
probably figured out it is sf. How do you say: "That's a black cow."?
Friday:
Last for this week, is QiTT (sm) for cat. Cats are kept
as pets in Arab/Islamic culture. They also chase mice. How do you
say: "This is a big cat."? (m)
I finally have one more thing: I regret I may not be able to update this
page for the next 3 weeks. Please be patient - you sure are if you got here!
